A-1859A: Advancements in Forensic Toxicology -- CZE Replaces GC/NPD as the Screen of Choice for Basic Drugs
نویسنده
چکیده
There is no greater analytical challenge in forensic toxicology than the “general unknown,” the search for drugs or poisons that might have caused a death, impaired a driver or drugged the victim of sexual assault. Typically, the first step in such an analysis is one or more screening procedures, each designed to detect a number of analytes in a single analytical pass. All else being equal, the more compounds that are detectable in a single pass, the better. Of all the compounds that are of potential interest forensically, organic bases are the most important. This group includes most of the drugs that affect the central nervous system, in addition to wellknown poisons such as strychnine. It is easy to make a list of several hundred such analytes and, of course, a comprehensive screen would test for them all.

Toxicology Screening of Whole Blood Extracts Using GC/Triple Quadrupole/MS
The Agilent 7000 GC/QQQ system can provide both high selectivity and high sensitivity for the analysis of drugs. Low-level detection and confirmation of large numbers of target drugs in blood extracts is possible in a single run. Combined with information from a single quadrupole screening instrument like the Agilent GC/NPD/MSD/DRS system, a much more complete picture of each sample is now poss...

In the early eighties, in response to increasing self-poisoning incidents by pharmaceuticals in Singapore, a comprehensive wide-sweep screen for these drugs in clinical gastric aspirates was devised and implemented by us. The toxicological screen which involved quadruplicate extractions, two in acidic conditions and the other two in alkaline conditions, required the following analyses to be car...

Stir bar sorptive extraction is an innovative sample extraction technique that can be used to process blood, urine, and tissue samples for routine drug screening in the forensic toxicology laboratory. The Gerstel Twister desorption unit (TDU) system is a multifunctional desorption unit capable of determining the presence of analytes from liquid samples after extraction using the Twister stir ba...
متن کاملImproved Forensic Toxicology Screening Using A GC/MS/NPD System with a 725-Compound DRS Database Application
Laboratories that perform toxicology screens are challenged by the requirement to look for large numbers of target compounds in samples that contain complex matrix interferences. GC/MS methods are widely used and accepted for this analysis. Full-scan EI methods offer many advantages for broad-range screening, such as unlimited numbers of targets, full-spectrum identity confirmation, and library...
متن کاملDetermining Rest Concentration of Diazinon in Agriculture Products (Melon And Cucmber) with GC-NPD and GC-MS Methods
Introduction: Diazinon is a moderately toxic broad-spectrum organophosphate, with a LD50 of 350 to 400 mg/kg for humans. Diazinon is absorbed through the skin and gastrointestinal tract and is rapidly metabolized within a few hours. Diazinon residues in melons and cucumbers have recently became a major health concern in Iran. Thus we decided to investigate Diazinon levels in melon and cucumbe...
